Clarence and Brenda Shuler

Dr. Clarence and Brenda are parents to three young adult daughters (he’s the minority in their sorority), author, marriage counselor, speaker, and life & relationship coach.

He is the President/CEO of BLR: Building Lasting Relationships. For nearly 35 years, Clarence and Brenda have conducted marriage, discipleship, men’s, women’s, and single seminars internationally. They are members of FamilyLife Weekend To Remember Marriage Conference Speaker Team. Recently, Clarence was a marriage expert on Oprah Winfrey’s Love Goals reality show. They also help military marriages, especially in the area of overcoming affairs and surviving deployment. They’ve taught for The Billy Graham Schools of Evangelism-teaching Managing Marriage/Family & Ministry. Clarence assisted the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (Administration for Children & Families) with its National African American Healthy Marriage Initiative. He’s certified in Marriage Education for Professional Training. As a Life & Relationship Coach, Clarence helps executives effectively manage their personal and professional lives, finding fulfillment in both. He speaks with Dr. Gary Chapman at his Date Night events and The Five Love Languages Marriage conferences. They are also writing a book about diversity with a new perspective!

Clarence has been a Keynote speaker for Iron Sharpens Iron and National Football League chapels. He formerly was President of Moody Bible Institute’s Alumni Board.

He’s been featured several times in Essence MagazineDiscipleship JournalBlack Enterprise and other magazines as well as radio, including Dr. Gary Chapman’s Building Relationships and Boundless, a singles podcast produced by Focus on the Family.

Faith-Based & Non-Religious Diversity seminars, a vital aspect of BLR, provides businesses, churches, educational institutions and military desiring to reflect all people within their organizations with Clarence’s forty plus years of professional cross-cultural experience. He’s taught as an adjunct professor at numerous educational institutions.

As a Diversity Consultant, he has assisted numerous clients through his diversity seminars and/or hiring people of color and women in decision-making positions including the War College of U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army’s European base Equal Opportunity Advisors, Evangelical Free Church of America, Moody Bible Institute, Navigators, Association of Christian Schools International, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Crowell & Orchard Foundations, and Mississippi Valley State University (Historically Black College). These are just a few of BLR’s diversity clients.

He’s authored eight books, including Winning the Race to Unity (Moody Publishing) used by colleges and graduate schools as a textbook, inspiring Wheaton College’s first ever Civil Rights Movement Conference!  Keeping Your Wife Your Best Friend is extremely popular with men and a lot of wives! He co-authored with Dr. Jeff Shears, Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, What All Dads Should Know. Clarence’s newest books are The Challenge: Cultivating Disciples That Last and Choose Greatness: 11 Wise Decisions That Brave Young Men Makeco-authored with Dr. Gary Chapman, New York Times Best Selling Author.

Brenda works with Clarence as the administrator of BLR: Building Lasting Relationships this non-profit ministry. She also speaks with Clarence, when they conduct their BLR marriage seminars in the U.S. and internationally. Together they counsel pre-married and married couples.

Brenda is Director of Client & Staff Care at Life Network, an outreach to post abortive women and men. She helps women heal from their post abortive wounds through a specific Bible study and a memorial service for the aborted children and their mothers. Furthermore, she’s the administrator for the Shuler family!

Brenda graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then continued her education at Southwestern Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, receiving a Masters of Arts in Religious Education. She received her Doctorate of Divinity from Denver Institute of Urban Studies and Adult College May 15, 2005.

She is a former Bible teacher for a citywide Women’s Bible Study.

Brenda and Clarence have been married over 34 years. Brenda has been a pastor’s wife, a stay at home mom, a Children’s Leader for Bible Study Fellowship, and a Children’s Librarian for the Tulsa Library System. She is a former leader for Bible Study Fellowship for seven years, along with a number of other responsibilities in church ministries such as pastors wife, nursery, meals, flowers, etc.

As a Christian for more than 34 years, Brenda’s desire is to love the Lord and seek His guidance for her life. She loves being a wife and mother and tries to encourage other women to find enjoyment in these life-changing and life-shaping roles in which God has placed them.

Brenda currently resides in Colorado Springs with Clarence.
