It is the 27th of July so let’s read the 27th chapter of Proverbs. Verse two caught my attention because outside of a child looking for an ‘Atta boy!’ from a parent, self praise just does not land well. v2 “Let another praise you and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.”
Listening to anyone who has accomplished anything tell you how great they are can be very uncomfortable. Self praise can make people cringe. It is not the validity of the ‘facts’, but rather the communication of these same facts. If the praise comes from someone else then it is usually in a context of admiration. The source of the communication really matters as self praise can and will turn people against you.
What other wisdom can we find in Proverbs 27 today?
