October 5 – Proverbs 5

Never to be Shared

It’s October 5 – so Proverbs 5. Solomon creatively exhorts young men ‘never to share‘. Verses 15-17: Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your steams of water in the public squares? Let then be yours alone – never to be shared.”

For needed refreshment, every man had his own cistern or drinking cup.  Not something that he ever shared. In a similar way and in the context of this passage, every man has his own wife.  Also, never to be shared. Dial this back to before getting married and not just after marriage. This provides direction for relationships with the opposite sex before getting married. Yours and yours alone, never to be shared. We wait, intentionally, and then enter into a covenant before we share and experience this type of refreshment.
