Titus 3:5
He saved us, not because of any righteous works that we have done, but according to His mercy…”
Note this passage – first ‘not’, then ‘but’. The but signifies ‘contrary’.
Note also that first is ‘we’ and second is ‘His’. The we is contrary to His.
Finally, note that first is ‘works’ and then second is ‘mercy’. Works are contrary to mercy.
God our Savior’s ways are often contrary to our ways.
Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Our way to salvation is works. God’s way is mercy. His way is higher. Mercy is higher than works.
I Peter 1:3
“According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again…”
He saved us. It’s according to His mercy. He is the one who has caused us to be born again.
Prayer: Thank You God for what You have done. You did it! You have shown me mercy and You have given me new life in Christ. Thank You! In Jesus Name, Amen.
