‘He Saved Us’ vs ‘Saved Myself’

Titus 3:5

“He saved us, not because of any righteous works that we have done…”

I just need to work harder.

I just need to sin less.

I just need to be kinder.

I just need to pray more.

I just need to go to church more often, etc. etc.

The truth is that I so very much want to ‘save myself’. The pride, arrogance, and self-sufficiency manifests a real misunderstanding of the Holiness of God and how my sin separates me…

Isaiah 59:2

“Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

‭‭

God is Holy (set apart) and cannot have contact or any relationship in any way with sin in any form. Because of my imperfection (my sin), I am separated from a Holy God and no improved behavior and no amount of good works can fix this.

Prayer: Dear God, I recognize that I cannot save myself. Only You can save me. I am so grateful that You sent your Son to do for me what I could not do for myself.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
