The focus of Proverbs is certainly to grow in wisdom. So what ‘dwells together’ with wisdom – side by side?
Verse 12 in chapter 8; “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.”
Wisdom and prudence are together like roommates. They live together, travel together and work together. They are simply always together. But what is prudence? What does it mean to be prudent?
Definition of prudence: acting with or showing care and thought for the future.
Wisdom with prudence always considers “the future”. It is not just about today or tomorrow, but about later on. It is not just about this season of my life but about the next season of my life. It is not just about me but about my children and grandchildren. It is not just about the impact I can have today but about the impact I will have through my legacy. It is not just about the temporal but about the eternal.
Where do I learn this? Who models this for me? Who can help me lift up my head and see beyond today? Who are the men in my Christian community who have and continue to act with care and thought for the future? I need to get some time with these men!
